Cancer Care

Another tool in the cancer-treatment toolbox.

Learn how Y90, embolization and ablation can fit into multidisciplinary cancer care.

Interventional Oncology

IR can treat selected tumors through arteries or directly through the skin.

Interventional oncology works alongside medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgery and hepatology. The exact role depends on tumor type, location, stage, organ function, prior treatment and the broader cancer plan.

Y90 radioembolization

Microspheres carrying radiation are delivered through hepatic arteries to selected liver tumors.

Arterial embolization

Blood flow to a tumor can be reduced or used to deliver treatment in selected settings.

Thermal ablation

Needles placed directly into selected tumors can use heat or cold to destroy targeted tissue.

Biopsy & access

Image-guided biopsy and venous access are also part of cancer care.

Multidisciplinary care matters: interventional oncology is generally part of a coordinated cancer plan rather than a standalone replacement for oncology.
